This walk-up shophouse unit is in the heart of a historic district, creating a captivating environment that celebrates the owner's art collection.

Designed as a harmonious blend of gallery space and a personal sanctuary for work and entertainment, this place provides a haven where the owner can enjoy solitude and remain undisturbed by distractions.

The main space features a series of curved acoustic partitions, serving as a dynamic canvas for the owner to display his collection of art by local artists, both past and present, such as artists Chen Wen Hsi and Tan Choh Tee. Each artwork contributes to the unit’s unique ambience, creating a space that is both visually captivating and deeply personal.

Among the owner’s treasured pieces is a calligraphy masterpiece crafted by his father. Composed of two Chinese characters, "自爱" (meaning "self-love"), this simple yet profound phrase serves as a perpetual source of inspiration and guidance. The artwork is prominently positioned beside the owner's workspace, serving as a heartfelt reminder of the importance of self-care and self-appreciation.

Influenced by the large, sculptural curved walls, materials that embody natural elements are chosen to bring out their organic and tactility qualities to create an overarching warm invitation for the owner and guests as they enter. Greeted by a large circular skylight, the meeting area creates a serene, almost ceremonial space for tea sessions and entertainment.

To create a visual balance, a combination of natural textures, including warm maple wood and rough grey travertine textured wall, was chosen for the acoustic wall partition to create a contrasting canvas for the owner to curate. Large format Breccia tiles were also utilized throughout the space to provide visual continuity and a sense of connection.
